Weight Loss Cleanse

When it comes to weight loss or turning back the clock on signs of aging, I am a sucker for any miracle in a bottle or pill form. I have tried every diet craze out there. A couple with success but most a complete failure. Not because I don’t follow through with them because I never quit, but because they usually don’t result anywhere near the purported weight loss expectation. So when I heard about Dr. Oz’s 3 day Detox Cleanse that should result in a 5 lb. weight loss, I was intrigued. I asked Lauren if she wanted to go on it with me after the first of the year since we are always fighting to lose 10 lbs. or more, and she said yes and her husband Phil was going to do it too. We agreed on a day to start and went shopping for all of the ingredients for our liquid meals which came out to the exact cost that Dr. Oz said it would cost which was about $16 per day. We each started the cleanse and texted each other what we were experiencing and offering support if needed. The first day wasn’t so bad. The morning shake was delicious. So far so good.
red-cleanseThe lunch time shake was mostly comprised of green vegetables and tasted like freshly mowed grass. It made a lot of shake and was very filling. I managed to drink all of mine but Lauren only drank half of hers.

green-cleanseWe were allowed a snack in the afternoon of one of the shakes we liked but I remained full until dinner time and decided to forgo the snack. The dinner shake was also delicious because like the breakfast one, it was mostly fruit based.
purple-cleanseMy main concern about this diet/cleanse was the elimination of coffee which usually results in a severe caffeine withdrawal headache for me but we could have Green Tea in the morning. I also had a cup of tea in the afternoon for a little pick me up. Every evening we were to take a detox bath with Lavender drops which I found very soothing. Day 2 in the morning, I weighed myself and I had dropped a pound. The afternoon of day 2 was the most difficult for me because I was hungry and found myself thinking about solid food a lot. I texted how I was feeling to Lauren and she texted back a note of support which helped. I just kept telling myself it was only for 3 days and I could survive anything for 3 days. I weighed myself on the morning of Day 3 and was down another 1 1/2 pounds. I think because I knew that the cleanse was over after one more day and that the next day I would be eating solid food again, Day 3 was a breeze. I also felt great. The next morning when I stepped on the scale, I had lost another 1/2 pound for a total of a 3 pound loss. A little less than what I expected but a minor miracle non the less. Lauren lost 4 pounds and her husband lost 5 pounds. As diets go this one is a healthy and short alternative to any others I have gone on. The ingredients are all fresh and other than feeling a little deprived of solid food, it is not too onerous. I think it really helped to have a friend to do it with for support. Our weight loss was short lived as we found out when we weighed ourselves after the first week back on solid food. But we did feel great.

Here is a chart detailing the 3 day cleanse that you can print out.

    Hi Raelene,
Carl shared your blog with me last week and I have enjoyed reading it! I have wanted to do a detox, but never followed through. Your blog helped. I started the 3 day detox cleanse today.
Breakfast was enjoyable. The flavor was good.
Lunch… well I’m trying to get it down, but I’m not a fan.
I’m curious, when you added the cucumber to the blender did you leave the peel on or take it off? I left it on, but think tomorrow I will remove it.

      Hi Debbie,
So glad you read the post and are actually doing the cleanse. It depends on the type of cucumber you are using. If it is an English or Persian cucumber, no need to peel. However, if it is a standard cucumber, I would peel it because it is too thick. Good Luck!
