There is an organization in our community that we as a family became involved with about ten years ago.
Operation Gratitude is a non-political organization that sends care packages to the US Military around the world. The packages are filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, plus personal letters of appreciation. Their mission is to lift the spirits of Active Duty and Veteran personnel. Since it’s beginning in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than one million care packages. Amazing!
Volunteer duties include assembling the care packages, writing encouraging letters to our soldiers, making paracord bracelets, donating funds to cover the mailing costs. One of the most rewarding experiences is reading the responses of military personnel who have received the packages and realizing the difference it makes to them.
As a family, it can be challenging to find opportunities to give back to our community that we can all participate in together. Operation Gratitude has been one of those opportunities that we can all find purpose in together and feel like we are making a difference. It also demonstrates that one person’s idea that sprouted in a garage can grow into one million packages of love sent around the world to those who sacrifice for all of our well-being. What an amazing opportunity to show our gratitude.
