Family Night

Two of my kids who live close to me are in their 30’s and very busy working and living the dream. As a result we rarely see each other. Recently I came up with an idea to have a family dinner once a month so we could all see each other, break bread and catch up on each others lives. Our first dinner was so much fun. To entice everyone to come, I created a menu that included buttermilk fried chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potato biscuits and my daughter brought a homemade peach and blueberry crisp. We all agreed the first Monday of every month would be good for our get togethers. After dinner, my children even cleaned up the dishes and thanked me for the meal. Later in the evening, my husband said why don’t we just go to a restaurant because it would be a lot less work but I said I enjoyed cooking again for our family even though it was exhausting. I know it is a little Waltonesque, but I think a Family Night is a great way to stay connected with loved ones and have everyone enjoy a home cooked meal.

I will be posting recipes of dishes I make for our family nights in the near future. But in the meantime here are some random photos of our family nights.
